a. diagnosis of needs of children
b. selection of materials and equipment
c. concepts, activities and experiences provided
d. setting up of classroom and classroom management
e. evaluation of children
f. and the whole administration of the school
NEEDS OF PRESCHOOL CHILDREN:
1.
Physical needs: These would included gross and fine motor coordination through creative play and manipulative / explorative activities.
a. Gross motor coordination: climbing, skipping, throwing, catching, hopping, balancing,
running, jumping, walking, piling of sand, etc.
b. Fine motor coordination: cutting, coloring, drawing, beading, eye-hand coordination, writing,
pasting, painting, lacing, etc.
2. Social needs
- to develop skills and behaviors in interpersonal relationships with teachers, peers, parents
and other people through group play and/or interaction
- to develop the ability to follow rules and routines as well as to learn about the family and other
people in the spirit of cooperation, sharing, giving, respect, trust, acceptance freedom and
love.
3. Emotional needs
- to express their love for God, self, others and community.
- to express their feelings of sadness, joy, gratitude, being sorry, anger, fear, hatred, etc.
- to develop awareness of sense of right and wrong
- to develop respect and care fro God's other creation.
4. Cognitive / Intellectual needs
- to develop child's reasoning ability, to think creatively
- to stimulate the child to engage in active learning through discovery, experimentation and
exploration
- to develop beginning skills in Math concepts and Language Arts (listening, writing, reading
and speaking)
5. Spiritual Needs
- opportunities for thinking about God by the order and beauty of nature, the facts of life and
growth, environment and play
- informal but genuine worship to feel the presence of God in meeting or circle time
- to develop a sense of awe and wonder in the course of experiencing God's creation
- to feel new fellowship with God as they help each other.
6. Creative - Aesthetic needs
- express feeling and imagination through
exploration of sounds, music and rhythm such as
- listening to music
- creating songs, rhythmic band and sounds
- singing and creative body movements
- explore the use of art media like
- crayons
- paints
- drawing
- natural objects
- create communication art media like:
- poems
- stories
- dramatization
